Hey guys In this article I am going to explain What is cloud Computing, Type of cloud and Going to show you some unique case study on AWS So that you can learn the Importance of awareness and Right Education.

Cloud Computing

Before we deep dive into the nitty gritty detail about Cloud. Let’s first understand who are using cloud so that you can get rough idea about the cloud computing

Who are using Cloud Computing.

Cloud are using by everyone. Many Start-up, Company, Organizations of every type, size using cloud to solve various use case like data backup, disaster recovery, email, virtual desktops, software development and testing, big data analytics or running their business over cloud by hosting a website.

Even we are using cloud in everyday life whether we are aware of it or not. If you have smartphone then you are definitely using cloud. But how ? Let me answer that question.

When we upload some file over Google drive or send some video via a Telegram or Backup photo or WhatsApp chat all of it uploads over cloud.

But Cloud not only use to store data or get storage. It use by many company, professionals or students to get different type of service like computation power, databases, infrastructure, platform, networking, Etc.

Now I think with above description you might get little idea about “What is cloud computing” But let’s take look at definition for more clarity.

What is Cloud Computing.

Cloud computing is the delivery of IT resource over the Internet.

I know the definition looks pretty bizarre and you might be saying “What the hell is IT resource”. So let’s simplify the definition.

Cloud Computing is a way of providing Hardware (RAM, CPU, Hard Disk, Router, Switches, etc.) and Software (Databases, File System) which are easily accessible via a internet.

Let’s understand It by an example. Let say you have PC or laptop of 2GB RAM or 4GB RAM or 8GB RAM and want to create OpenShift cluster or Multi node Kubernetes cluster or do some networking related task or do Some analysis on data or want to run Machine Learning Algorithm. Now in these cases sometime note even 16GB RAM will be enough So we can get RAM of 32GB or 64GB very easily from Cloud.

MYTH :- Lot of people say Internet is the limitation of cloud But actually it is prerequisite not limitation.

Benefit and Feature of Cloud Computing

Pay-As-you-go:- It is one of major feature and benefit of Cloud Computing and that feature is one which I mostly like about the cloud computing. We don’t have to pay upfront for anything. We only pay for what we use and how long we use.

  • In this way we can avoid Huge Capital investment.

Auto scaling:- Another benefit and feature of Cloud Computing is Auto scaling. Company, Start-up and Organization who running business over Cloud majorly get benefit from Auto scaling. In Auto scaling number of server grow or shrink as incoming per traffic.

  • In this way Organization Don’t have to guess the capacity.
  • They can scale globally because of the huge global infrastructure.

Type of Cloud computing

Type of cloud

There is majorly three type of cloud computing:-

  1. Public Cloud:- The IT resources that are available for everyone means publicly which are accessible easily via a internet is public cloud.
  2. Private Cloud:- The IT resources that are personal to organization or available locally which are accessible inside the premises via local network is Private cloud.
  3. Hybrid Cloud:- In the simplest term the combination of both Public cloud and private cloud is Hybrid Cloud.
AWS

AWS (Amazon Web Services) one of major public cloud provider occupies 61% of cloud Market alone. In the year 2006 AWS pioneered cloud computing. AWS is broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 175 fully featured services from data centers globally. Millions of customers including the fastest-growing startups, largest enterprises, and leading government agencies are using AWS to lower costs.

AWS (Amazon Web Services) is a subsidiary of Amazon. It is a comprehensive, evolving cloud computing platform that have lot services like infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and packaged software as a service (SaaS) majorly including storage as a service, networking as a service, and so on.

FACTS About AWS

→ Amazon was one of the first corporations to offer a pay-as-you-go cloud computing model that adapts to give users computing and digital storage resources as they need it.

→ AWS made up of 77 availability zones that cut across 24 geographic regions all over the world. Serving 245 Countries and Territories.

→ The revenue that AWS generated in 2019 was 35.03 billion U.S. dollars

Who use AWS

Here I am including some name of big and small organization, startup and company who are using AWS but above fact suffice to say that AWS is leader in Cloud Market. I personally used OpenShift Cluster which run by RedHat over AWS.

AWS user includes Adobe Systems, Airbnb, Autodesk, BMW, Docker, Hearst Corporation, Hitachi, HTC, Intuit, Johnson & Johnson, Lyft, NASA, Netflix, Philips, Pitney Bowes, Qantas, Qlik, Samsung, SAP, Schneider Electric, Slack, Spotify, Tata Motors, The Kellogg Company, Unilever, Xiaomi, Yelp, Zynga, Disney, Expedia, Jio saavn and many more

CASE STUDIES

There is are lot Big and small organization using AWS and above name are suffice to show the popularity of AWS. There are lot case study like NASA Case Study, Netflix on AWS Case Study, Slack Case Study, Docker Case Study you can easily find over internet but I like to discuss some case study which show the importance of awareness of tech new and old and Right Education.

Dropbox

Dropbox

Dropbox is file hosting service was founded in 2007 by MIT students Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi as a startup company, and headquartered in San Francisco, California.

If you don’t know about the Dropbox which is most likely not going to happen but still let brief you. In simplest term Dropbox is like folder on your computer desktop that lets you easily store files on the Internet, send them to others, and synchronize them across your laptop, phone, and tablet.

Dropbox started as startup founded in 2007 now have More than 500 million users used AWS (Amazon web services) for the initial eight year to store files. Dropbox who store the billions and billions of file on the behalf millions of user, used run their business over AWS. However over the last two-and-a-half years ago, Dropbox built its own vast computer network and shifted its service onto a new breed of machines designed by its own engineers

REASON FOR SHOWING DROPBOX CASE STUDY

AS you know if have read this article from beginning AWS started in the year 2006 and Dropbox in 2007 where the knowledge and usage of cloud computing is very limited but still dropbox founder used AWS and for eight year. Dropbox used one of the most reliable AWS service called S3(Single Storage service) and Dropbox is consider as company who revolutionize cloud storage. In 2007 Dropbox start as start up up and Now they have their own resources.

At the beginning Dropbox might have face the issue of resource and infrastructure and buying the resource and infrastructure could be great risk and huge investment. But with the awareness of AWS services founder of dropbox used AWS service s3 provided same facility to user as AWS s3 provided to them as cloud user. Like some certain amount of free s3 storage provided by AWS to it’s user similarly Dropbox given certain of free storage to there user and Who don’t love free thing.

People start using dropbox and realize that Dropbox is very useful because they can access file from anywhere. Dropbox may later bring premium account or may be they already have premium subscription at the beginning. But People realize usefulness of dropbox and they start buying premium account too.

By this case Study I want to show that we should be aware of the new tech coming into market and have right education of it. With right education and awareness we can do lot of the thing no one can think of. We can do a lot of exceptional things.Guy’s there are lot of start-up able build and grow because of of Cloud computing around 2007 to 2008 where the knowledge of cloud is very limited. Let’s see some more case study who use AWS around 2007 to 2008

Airbnb

airbnb

About Airbnb

Airbnb is a community marketplace that allows property owners and travelers to connect with each other for the purpose of renting unique vacation spaces around the world. The Airbnb community users’ activities are conducted on the company’s Website and through its iPhone and Android applications. The San Francisco-based Airbnb began operation in 2008 and currently has hundreds of employees across the globe supporting property rentals in nearly 25,000 cities in 192 countries.

Challenges

A year after Airbnb launched, the company decided to migrate nearly all of its cloud computing functions to Amazon Web Services (AWS) because of service administration challenges experienced with its original provider.

According to Nathan Blecharczyk, Co-founder & CTO of Airbnb “Initially, the appeal of AWS was the ease of managing and customizing the stack. It was great to be able to ramp up more servers without having to contact anyone and without having minimum usage commitments. As our company continued to grow, so did our reliance on the AWS cloud and now, we’ve adopted almost all of the features AWS provides.”

Why Amazon Web Services

Airbnb has grown significantly over the last 3 years. To support demand, the company uses 200 Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances for its application, memcache, and search servers. Within Amazon EC2, Airbnb is using Elastic Load Balancing, which automatically distributes incoming traffic between multiple Amazon EC2 instances. To easily process and analyze 50 Gigabytes of data daily, Airbnb uses Amazon Elastic MapReduce (Amazon EMR). Airbnb is also using Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) to house backups and static files, including 10 terabytes of user pictures. To monitor all of its server resources, Airbnb uses Amazon CloudWatch, which allows the company to easily supervise all of its Amazon EC2 assets through the AWS Management Console, Command Line Tools, or a Web services API.In addition, Airbnb moved its main MySQL database to Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS).

The Benefits

Airbnb believes that AWS saved it the expense of at least one operations position. Additionally, the company states that the flexibility and responsiveness of AWS is helping it to prepare for more growth.

Animoto

Animoto

About Animoto

Animoto, a New York-based online video service, makes it easy to make and share videos in just a few minutes. The company launched in August of 2007. It is a cloud-based video creation service that produces video from photos, video clips, and music into video slideshows, and customized web-based presentations.

How AWS Helped

In the Beginning When Animoto Lunch they used their own servers and AWS. But due to traffic reaching to Animoto website increases they decided to shift to all the architecture to AWS which benefited Animato because Animoto integrated with Facebook in 2008 attracting 750,000 new users in 3 days. According to Brad Jefferson CEO and Co-founder of Animoto “Due to the integration of Animoto With facebook the count of EC2 instance reach from 100 to 5,000.”
